Biography
Inkuyo, a Los Angeles-based trio, fuses the music of the Andean Mountain region with poetry and rock-and-roll influences. Bolivia-born composer, arranger, and performer on pan pipes and South American flutes, Gonzolo Vargas supplies the guiding vision that has positioned the group as a leading force in the rising popularity of traditional Andean music throughout North America. The name Inkuyo comes from a remote mountain village where music forms an essential part of daily life, and the ensemble first appeared as a quartet. Since the early-1990s the band has operated as a trio that includes Argentina-born guitarist Enrique Coria and Bolivia-born charango, bandurria, and tipple player Jose Luis Reynolds. Vargas also co-founded the Andean folk group Sukay.
