Biography
InsideOut serves up a lively blend of reinterpretations, satirical takes, and newly crafted pieces that resonates with devotees of vocal harmony music. Every sonic layer, drums included, arises exclusively from the members' own voices. This six-person collective draws on an expansive catalog that unites numerous pop successes from the 1980s and 1990s with longstanding a cappella standards, fresh pop-oriented originals, and comedic versions. Live shows depend on active crowd engagement and humorous skits. The lineup first assembled in Provo, Utah, in January 1999. Their wide-ranging performances routinely secure airtime on radio and television outlets. Although many emerging a cappella ensembles falter from incompatible vocal timbres, InsideOut typically achieves a robust, integrated texture. Vitality surges through their recordings and stage shows alike, reflecting the group's trademark commitment to pouring their full presence into every number. They further intersperse devotional hymns and spiritual tributes among their playful selections, shifting without pause from a kung fu farce to a hushed celebration of heaven's subtle marvels. Such programming lets them straddle secular and sacred realms with ease, underscoring their particular talent for equilibrium. In parallel, the ensemble honors everyday existence through original material, the bulk of it composed by tenor Kimball Brown in present-day vocal idioms. Echoes of Toto, Paul Simon, and additional 1980s luminaries surface throughout his contributions.
