Biography
Invisible Familiars, the psychedelic pop outfit from Brooklyn, originated as the project of singer/songwriter Jared Samuel and also includes guitarist Robbie Mangano plus drummer Tim Kuhl. Kuhl and Mangano both perform in Sean Lennon's the Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger, while Samuel has joined forces with that ensemble as well as Cibo Matto, Sharon Jones, and Martha Wainwright. Samuel first secluded himself on a houseboat to compose songs before bringing in co-producer Michael Leonhart and additional associates such as Jolie Holland, Nels Cline, Stuart Bogie of Antibalas, and Miho Hatori of Cibo Matto to complete what became the group's debut album. Other Music put out the debut single "Clever Devil" in June 2014, followed by the next release "Heavenly Devil" that October. The band's first full-length, Disturbing Wildlife, appeared in January 2015.
