Philadelphia native Drew Bandos from Pennsylvania launched the project Is and of The, which specializes in delicate, largely instrumental sound collages evoking Boards of Canada, Slowdive, and Do Make Say Think. Bandos conceived Is and of The after resolving to create music during his sophomore year of college in Washington, D.C. He submitted demos to many labels before securing a home for the work at Mush Records. In September 2011 the label issued the project's official debut album, Head Phased for Dreamless Sleep, a set Bandos originally assembled to conquer insomnia.
