Biography
Isaac Green and the Skalars ranked among the rare ensembles named for a performer whose primary tasks involved dancing, delivering occasional backing vocals, and generating assorted sound effects. They ranked among the leading acts in the ska-revival movement that flourished in St. Louis throughout the 1990s. Green formed the group near 1992 alongside guitarist Ethan D'Ercole and bassist Will Horton. Multiple roster adjustments later brought in vocalist/saxophonist Jessica Butler, trombonist Evan Shaw, Farfisa player Jason Brody, and drummer Dave Sharma. The band first appeared on record in 1995 via the seven-inch "Junbok Paranoia," then released their debut LP Skoolin' with the Skalars the following year. Green soon withdrew from live performance while retaining his managerial role, after which the remaining members shortened the name to the Skalars.
