Born on 11 June 1945 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, Isaac Scott saw his family relocate to the West Coast during the late 1940s and establish themselves in Portland, Oregon. There, as a child, he absorbed both gospel and blues. Through the 1960s he remained active with gospel ensembles, yet in 1974, while based in Seattle, Washington, he shifted his focus exclusively to blues. Albert Collins shaped his guitar style, while his vocals and choice of material continued to draw deeply from blues, soul, and gospel traditions. Two studio albums appeared on Red Lightnin', and additional live recordings later surfaced on Solid Smoke and Criminal.
