Biography
An experimental metal outfit originating in Germany came together under the name Island during 2003. The initial lineup consisted of three members—Christian Kolf handling guitars, bass, keys, synth, and vocals; Florian Toyka covering guitars, bass, keys, synth, percussion, and vocals; and Patrick Schroeder on drums—who laid down their debut full-length, Orakel, across 2003 and 2004. Later that same year the group issued a follow-up EP titled Island EP, though founder Schroeder departed shortly afterward, prompting lineup adjustments. The ensemble eventually grew to five members with the additions of Rafael Calman on drums, Clemens Toyka on brass, and Jan Buckard on contrabass. Vendlus Records issued a 2007 re-release of Orakel that incorporated the Island EP tracks as bonus material.
