Biography
Israel Houghton, recognized as a worship leader, recording artist, songwriter, and producer, committed himself to worship ministry on a full-time basis beginning in 1989. His efforts from those earliest days centered on bridging divides tied to culture and denomination. That focus guided the 1995 launch of New Breed Ministries, which he established alongside his wife Meleasa together with an ensemble of elite musicians and vocalists. Extensive touring carried the group’s dynamic and varied sound into congregations nationwide, coinciding with the 1997 launch of his recording work through the projects Whisper It Loud and Way of the World. The 2001 album New Season marked the debut Israel & New Breed release as well as the act’s initial Sony offering. Sony next released Real in 2002, followed in 2004 by Live from Another Level, issued in both CD and DVD formats. Alive in South Africa, recorded in 2005, captured a Cape Town concert before an audience of 8,000. One year later came the holiday project Timeless Christmas.
