In 2018, IV stepped onto the scene with a brooding, atmospheric approach to hip-hop-inflected R&B, rolling out several tracks in rapid order that opened with "Because of Me." Her first major-label effort arrived in 2020 via the single "Swimming," which featured Trippie Redd.
Born in St. Louis and now based in Los Angeles, the singer began posting her material online and caught the attention of producer Edgar Esteves (Alicia Keys, Quavo), who took on the role of manager. Esteves connected her with rapper and label head Jordan Hollywood, leading to IV's initial official release, the May 2018 track "Because of Me," crafted by Smash David and SkipOnDaBeat.
