J. Karjalainen

A Finnish singer and songwriter, J. Karjalainen first gained attention in the 1980s and maintained a following across subsequent decades. Born Jukka Tapio Karjalainen in Helsinki on April 1, 1957, he issued his first album, J. Karjalainen ja Mustat Lasit, in 1981. Additional albums appeared at a roughly yearly pace from that point onward through the 1980s and into later years. Electric Sauna, released in 1996, stood out for its strong performance, reaching the top of the Finnish albums chart and leading to further releases by the same band configuration: Electric Picnic in 1999, Marjaniemessä in 2001, and Valtatie in 2002, each of which entered the Top Five. The singles “On Kaikki Niinkuin Ennenkin” from 1998 and “Valtatie” from 2002 also achieved notable success.
