Biography
J. Mascis, the one-time frontman of Dinosaur Jr., applies the name The Fog not to indicate an actual group but to alert listeners when his work features a complete ensemble instead of solo acoustic material. Appearances under that banner therefore promise the sort of extreme volume and piercing guitar feedback capable of overwhelming rooms and ears alike. Although the moniker remains largely nominal, a handful of musicians have repeatedly joined Mascis in that context. Touring lineups have regularly included former Minutemen bassist Mike Watt along with George Berz, the drummer who previously played in Dinosaur Jr. Additional support on live documents has come from Kevin Shields of Super Furry Animals and My Bloody Valentine as well as Bob Pollard of Guided by Voices.
