Three young virtuosos comprise the instrumental ensemble J3, whose technical command and poise exceed their years. The act first appeared before listeners in 2022 via the album J-Who, presenting an eclectic fusion that merges jazz, funk, pop, gospel, and R&B.

The trio assembled that same year around guitarist and keyboardist Justin-Lee Schultz, drummer Jamie-Leigh Schultz, and bassist Jaden Baker. Raised in South Africa, the Schultz siblings displayed musical aptitude early, taking up instruments near age five before performing alongside their father, guitarist Julian Schultz, in a family band. Their relocation to the United States around 2015 allowed further refinement, leading to appearances with Steve Vai, Jacob Collier, Corey Henry, and additional leading figures. Bassist Baker, who spent his formative years in Dallas, Texas, likewise drew notice while still young, studying under Derrick Hodge and collaborating onstage with Israel Houghton and others. United by admiration for Chick Corea, George Benson, Michael Jackson, and similar artists, the three musicians began creating together and issued their debut album, J-Who, in 2022.
