Biography
Singer/songwriter Jack Gilinsky first drew widespread notice in 2014 when he formed one half of the platinum-selling pop-rap duo Jack and Jack. The pair transitioned from social-media sensations to mainstream chart success through singles such as “My Life” and “Like That.” After the duo issued its debut album, A Good Friend Is Nice, in 2019, Gilinsky stepped out on his own the following year with the R&B-tinged track “My Love.”
Raised in Omaha, Nebraska, Gilinsky began posting comedy sketches online in 2007 alongside his longtime friend Jack Johnson. The two rebranded as Jack and Jack in 2013 and steadily built an audience; by the next year they counted five million followers and pivoted from humorous skits to original music, starting with the single “Distance.” Subsequent sessions brought together an array of producers and songwriters, among them Shawn Mendes, Steve Aoki, Max Martin, and Savan Kotecha. By 2015 the duo had moved more than a million digital singles, highlighted by “Wild Life,” “Doing It Right,” and “Like That (feat. Skate).” Later that same year they released their first EP, Calibraska, on an independent basis. A deal with Island Records followed in 2017, yielding the EP Gone, before the full-length A Good Friend Is Nice appeared in 2019.
Once touring in support of that album concluded, Gilinsky returned in 2020 with his initial solo release, “My Love,” and announced plans to deliver a debut full-length project before the year ended.
