Biography
Born on 30 November 1935 near Bloomfield, Iowa, USA, Reno died on 1 November 2008 in Florence, Kentucky, USA. As a singer and guitarist, he launched his radio career at age 16 and joined The Ozark Jubilee as a regular performer starting in 1955. Military service did not halt his radio commitments, and his debut US country chart entry arrived with ‘Repeat After Me’ on the JAB label. Dot Records issued his signature single ‘I Want One,’ while additional chart entries came via country renditions of pop successes such as ‘Hitchin’ a Ride,’ ‘Do You Want to Dance?,’ ‘Beautiful Sunday,’ and ‘Let the Four Winds Blow,’ closing with ‘Jukebox’ in 1974. The Country Music Association honored him as Disc Jockey of the Year in 1978, yet Hodgkin’s lymphoma soon limited his activities. Recovery allowed him to record duets with daughter Sheila beginning in 1986, after which he concentrated on management and production until a brain tumor caused his death in 2008.
