Vocalist Jackie Dixon introduced the musical traditions of Scotland to Canada during the mid-1960s. Prior to departing the Hamilton/Blantyre region close to Glasgow, where he had performed with the Mike Madden Duo and the Bonnie Scots, Dixon joined forces with a fresh ensemble. This group, known interchangeably as Sullivan's Gypsies and Ryan's Fancy, incorporated banjo player/organist Fergus O'Byrne along with guitarist/mandolinist Dermot O'Reilly. The band's 1969 release titled Laugh And Cry featured traditional Scottish numbers including "Northern Lights Of Aberdeen", "Scotland Ra Brave", "Dundee Weaver" and "Lizzy Lindsay", in addition to a version of Woody Guthrie's "This Land Is Your Land" delivered with a pronounced brogue.

Dixon, who now makes his home in Huntsville, Ontario, stays musically engaged. Beyond his ongoing performances of Glasgow's street songs, he holds the positions of drum sargent and bass drummer within the Huntsville Legion Pipe Band.
