Biography
Memphis-based gospel vocalist Jackie Johnson launched her career by contributing backing vocals to performances by the Staple Singers, Barbara Carr, Shirley Brown, Rufus Thomas, and Lenny Kravitz. Her first full-length project, the 1998 album Let Love Abide, merged funky Southern soul and gospel textures with sleek, adult-contemporary R&B. The follow-up effort Here I Am appeared in fall 2000.
