Biography
American singer/songwriter Haley Fohr created the fictional character Jackie Lynn as an outlet apart from her experimental indie folk project Circuit des Yeux. The two Jackie Lynn albums, released in 2016 and 2020 under the titles Jackie Lynn and Jacqueline, shift toward playful and fantasy-driven material that blends country, disco, and synth pop.
Lynn’s invented history places her birth in Franklin, Tennessee, in 1990, followed by a move to Chicago shortly before she turned twenty. There she encountered a figure named Tom Strong, and together they launched a multi-million-dollar cocaine operation. Thrill Jockey issued the self-titled Jackie Lynn album in 2016, its songs drawn directly from that narrative. Members of Bitchin’ Bajas and Cave appear on the record, which moves away from Circuit des Yeux’s usual approach through minimalist arrangements built on acoustic guitars, synthesizers, and drum machines alongside more direct songwriting. The narrative resumed with Jacqueline, issued by Drag City in 2020 and expanded by disco beats and string arrangements.
