Country music typically draws from Southern heritage, yet Jackson Michelson illustrates its broader national appeal. Raised in the Pacific Northwest and currently residing in California, Michelson crafts songs centered on countryside existence and blue-collar principles despite his distance from Music City. His origins trace to Corvallis, Oregon—locally recognized as the Grass Seed Capital of the World and home to Oregon State University. In that community, numerous youths labor in agriculture to fund their education or during summer breaks. Michelson participated in such fieldwork while also accompanying his sibling, a Christian music professional, on tour to handle merchandise sales, all while aspiring to a musical profession. Having mastered guitar and piano, he began composing original material. Following his 2007 high school graduation, Michelson claimed victory in the 2010 Western regional round of the Colgate Country Showdown, a contest boasting past winners like Garth Brooks, Tim McGraw, Brad Paisley, and Martina McBride. That year also saw the launch of his initial five-track EP, Dreams. Although the competition awarded him a complimentary Nashville journey, he cultivated listeners in California through his fusion of classic country elements and pop vitality. Satellite radio play for his track "The Good Life" drew Curb Records' interest, leading to a contract. June 2016 brought his label debut, the six-song EP Jackson Michelson. Then in October 2017, he issued the energetic country-rock single "Rollin'" via Curb.
