Biography
Jade the Moon crafts fractured alt-pop by uniting artist and songwriter Jade Moon with production team Bad Cop Mean Cop, whose work blends electronic and acoustic timbres, distorted samples, and delay into intimate results. This Canadian trio issued its debut full-length, Habits and Hindrance, in 2015.
Toronto-based Jade Moon started composing short stories centered on relationships and their attendant feelings in 2014, later choosing to shape those pieces into songs. Though the material was never meant for outside ears at first, Bad Cop Mean Cop’s participation supplied the vignettes with new direction. Habits and Hindrance then appeared on Culvert Music that same year, featuring soft-voiced Moon as lead vocalist. The group followed with the low-key “Hotels” in 2017 and shifted toward the more effervescent dance-pop of “The Tide” the next year.
