In 2003 James Anthony Walker, the new age maestro, extended an invitation through his self-published CD titled Music for a Candlelight Christmas. His arrangements of seasonal classics such as "Jingle Bells" weave in Appalachian flavor via dulcimer and guitar, supported by a string section. The artist asserts creative debts to both Frank Zappa and Luciano Berio, yet the truth of these assertions remains elusive because of a remarkable episode of self-censorship. His website records that Walker "withdrew all existing work from circulation in 1985 for personal and artistic reasons." A Boston University graduate, he later directed the first electronic music studio at the University of Chicago. He subsequently served as director of marketing for Gibson guitars before leaving the post in the '80s.
