Biography
James F. Curley, recognized as a folk singer and songwriter, first felt drawn to music through the example of his father and two older brothers, who all performed on instruments and sang. Professional work kept him active in the Philadelphia region through 1975, after which he toured widely across the United States and made Houston his home in 1979. The next year brought a move to Austin, followed by a later relocation to Chicago. Sets built primarily around cover material occupied him until 1990, when he committed fully to original songwriting. In the winter of 2002-2003 he issued his debut album, Tom's Cafe, on the independent Sidewalking Crab label he operated. Among its tracks was "Flies," which placed as a Top Ten finalist in the children's category of the 2002 John Lennon Songwriting Contest.
