English folksinger James Raynard first entered the folk world by way of Bob Dylan’s songs, following a route familiar to countless aspiring singer/songwriters. A guitarist without formal lessons, he enrolled in folklore studies at Sheffield University, added the fiddle to his skills, and gradually formed a bond with British folk legend Martin Carthy. Festival appearances brought him to the notice of Unearthed, One Little Indian’s dedicated folk label. He joined the roster in 2004, and his debut album, Strange Histories, appeared the following September.
