Jamie Duggan began his career as a U.K. garage DJ and remixer before issuing the bassline mix compilation series titled The Sound of Bassline through the Ministry of Sound imprint. Issued in tandem with Sheffield’s short-lived yet storied bassline venue Niche Nightclub—where Duggan had previously served as resident—the albums reflected his longstanding ties to that scene. He also helped establish the U.K. garage imprint Nocturnal Records, on which his remixes appeared with regularity. His first release arrived in 2005 via the Rumour Records mix album Basscutz: All About the Bassline! That same year he issued U.K. garage reworkings of Snoop Dogg’s “Drop It Like It’s Hot” and Marques Houston’s “Pop That Booty” on Nocturnal Records, the label he had co-founded the previous year alongside Nev Wright and Chris Bailey. Remixing assignments continued in the years that followed, highlighted by his 2007 version of H Two O’s smash hit “What’s It Gonna Be.” In 2008 he handled two of the three discs comprising the Ministry of Sound and Niche Nightclub–affiliated collection The Sound of Bassline. Strong sales prompted the similarly Duggan-mixed sequel The Sound of Bassline, Vol. 2 in 2009.
