Biography
Born in Toronto, singer/songwriter/guitarist Jamie James first took up the instrument at age 13. In the early 1970s he performed with Detroit-area groups, most prominently Bob Seger’s. Following a move to Southern California, he launched the rockabilly revival outfit the Kingbees late in the decade. The band folded by the mid-1980s, after which James teamed with former Stray Cats Lee Rocker and Slim Jim Phantom while regularly headlining Hermosa Beach’s Lighthouse venue. He met Harry Dean Stanton after a 1990 performance and the two began working together soon afterward. In 2000 James issued his solo album Crossroads and joined that summer’s Hootenanny tour alongside Chris Isaak, Dave Edmunds and the Reverend Horton Heat.
