Jamie Slocum entered the world in Grants Pass, Oregon, as a tuneful contemporary Christian performer whose polished pop/rock textures carry earnest declarations of belief. His family shifted residence to Phoenix, Arizona, during his childhood, and at nine he joined the Phoenix Boys Choir. Mastery of piano, guitar, and saxophone followed, leading the teenager to form the local outfit Shadowhouse while beginning to compose original material. College studies in broadcasting and marine biology occupied him for a time, yet the pull of music prevailed, prompting a 1991 relocation to Nashville in pursuit of professional opportunity. There Slocum first gained footing as a songwriter, supplying Seneca with the hit “We Got a Good Thing Going.” A publishing agreement with Mike Curb soon followed, and the industry veteran urged him to cut his own record. Curb issued the debut Somewhere Under Heaven in 1996, which brought a Dove Award nomination for Best New Artist of the Year. Freedom Records next presented Grace Changes Everything, whose title track registered on adult contemporary playlists. After Someone Like You appeared in 2001, Slocum rejoined Curb for the 2003 album My Heart Knows. Dependence arrived in 2009 and yielded a number-one adult contemporary single in its title track, which also received a Dove Award nomination for Inspirational Song of the Year; “Fragile” and “Just Another Mountain” likewise performed strongly at AC radio. The sixth album, Safe, was scheduled for release in April 2016.
