Biography
From a young age, New York-based multi-instrumentalist and singer Jane Byaela immersed herself in music, shaped by her upbringing as the daughter of viola and violin players and the sister of a classically trained singer. Beginning violin study with her mother at six, she completed her first composition four years later. At eleven she turned to self-instruction on classical guitar. Merging classical technique with poetic lyricism, she layers orchestral textures through guitar and viola, earning recognition as a leading newcomer on the Greenwich Village folk scene. Her first album, On the Edge, quickly became a staple for folk radio programmers in Boston and New York. David Seitz, whose prior production and engineering credits include work with Dar Williams, Suzanne Vega, Michelle Shocked, and Richard Shindell, helmed the follow-up, Burning Silver, which broadened her audience substantially. Rising interest across Europe then led to performances in Germany, Switzerland, and France.
