Born in 1966 in Windsor, New South Wales, Australia, country singer Jane Saunders spent her early years after her family relocated to the Blue Mountains, a region she recalls as “pretty, picturesque with not many neighbours.” In 1985 she met David Saunders, who would later serve as her guitarist and husband. A song taken from her promotional tape appeared on the compilation The Best Of Australia, leading directly to a contract with ABC Records. On her debut album, Stranger To Your Heart, she supplied several original compositions while selecting the remaining material with care; among them, “Life In A Small Town” earned a Song Of The Year nomination at the Australian Country Music Awards. John Kane of the Flying Emus produced the record, and Saunders subsequently joined forces with Kane’s wife Genni and Shanley Del to form the country harmony trio Saunders, Kane and Del, whose sound draws heavily from the Trio album by Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris and Linda Ronstadt. A standout track is their luminous reading of the Beatles’ “Here Comes The Sun.” She also appears on the single “I Am A Child” by Rod McCormack and Mick Albeck. Saunders’ voice, her taste in songs and her acoustic approach have drawn consistent praise. On the album Poetic Justice she delivered affecting interpretations of Bob Dylan’s “I Threw It All Away” and the Byrds’ “Ballad Of Easy Rider.”
