Biography
Born as the oldest offspring to Donald and Christina Stewart within the prominent Stewart Family renowned for Scottish folk singing, Jane Turriff ranks among the foremost traditional vocalists in Scotland. On accordion and melodeon she provides her own accompaniment while performing a selection exceeding one hundred pieces drawn from Northeastern Scottish folk songs, border ballads, and traditional melodies, together with distinctive interpretations of Jimmie Rodgers' country numbers. Tulloch received initial documentation from folklorist Hamish Henderson at the School of Scottish Studies during 1955, earning acclaim from Folk Roots regarding her "wonderful voice and totally accessible style." Following appearances across multiple compilations, Tulloch issued her first record, Singin' Is Ma Life, comprising selections captured during festivals, folk clubs, and at her Mintlow residence throughout 1996.
