Janet Carroll gained her widest recognition through acting, with credits spanning countless television series, stage productions, and feature films. She also maintains a deep passion for music, especially jazz and blues, and has released three albums while preparing additional projects. Over twenty years she has performed at jazz festivals throughout North America, appearing in New Orleans and Monterey as well as Vancouver and Victoria. The Redding Jazz Festival presented her with a Best Vocalist award, and her shows are supported by a seven-piece ensemble.

Her breakthrough screen part arrived in Risky Business, where she played a parent opposite the teenage Tom Cruise. Subsequent film roles placed her opposite Sean Connery, Michael York, Henry Winkler, Matthew Broderick, Edward James Olmos, Beau Bridges, Kiefer Sutherland, and Dustin Hoffman, among others. On television she has been seen in Murphy Brown, Married With Children, and Melrose Place, together with numerous made-for-television movies. Prior to her Hollywood years she performed in musical theater productions that included South Pacific, Mame, Pajama Game, Annie Get Your Gun, and The Sound of Music. Her stage work in Elektra earned a Drama League Award.
