Biography
Born in Los Angeles, California, Janet Robin first found her way into music through the example set by her brother, whose own musical interests proved inspirational. Guitar instruction began for her near age six, encompassing both classical and folk approaches. Roughly four years afterward she moved toward electric rock, receiving guidance from Randy Rhoads, a local instructor. Extensive rehearsal and an array of modest appearances at colleges, clubs, and assorted venues eventually led to her initial major opportunity when her ability earned her the guitarist slot alongside Lindsey Buckingham, the former Fleetwood Mac member. Extensive road work throughout the United States and Canada followed, supplying substantial performance experience. Several years later she felt ready to launch an independent career. Over time she has joined forces with Colin Hay, the Wild Colonials, the Smithereens, Ann and Nancy Wilson, the BusBoys, Dan Hicks, and additional artists. Although establishing herself alone presented difficulties, she finished tracking her first album, Open the Door, in 1998; Little Sister Records issued the thirteen-track collection of original material. Her next release, Out from Under, reached stores in January 2001. Pop and rock numbers featured across her recordings include “Brownstone,” “Second Look,” “Will U Still Kiss Me,” “How Many Times Before,” and “Catch My Breath.” Robin sometimes appears onstage unaccompanied, yet she regularly performs with a strong supporting group that includes bassist Bryan Beller, guitarist and background vocalist Mark Karan, drummer Joe Travers, and guitarist Rick Musallam.
