Biography
Jason Luckett, a singer and songwriter born in Hawaii yet raised in Los Angeles, drew on his unusual local encounters and turbulent household to shape a path centered on the concept he labels Groovy Acoustic Soul. This passionate, soulful fusion of folk rock first stirred interest locally with the arrival of his opening album, J Masala Griot, in 1993. Though the record received scant notice and circulated through minimal channels, the setback failed to halt his momentum, and 1996's Suicide, or Celebration? emerged as Luckett's earliest notable independent release. He tracked Distil the next year, then devoted the following several seasons to building visibility via appearances at intimate Pacific venues and coffee houses. Reentering the studio in 2000 produced Living Room, an album that probed his personal convictions and circumstances more deeply while sharpening his songwriting abilities. The mildly political Arrogance Procrastination Fear Humility appeared in 2002.
