Biography
Jason Mitchell spent his childhood in White Rock, British Columbia, surrounded by the lingering spirit of his mother’s hippie existence that carried on long after the close of the 1960s. Van journeys, free-form poetry, the sounds of Bob Dylan, and an open invitation to explore every creative medium shaped his early years. He picked up guitar on his own, channeling his growing passion for verse into original songs while his voice emerged without effort. Along the way he also mastered the craft of gourmet cooking and became a licensed massage therapist.
His entry into music followed the familiar route of intimate coffeehouse and club appearances that let him sharpen his abilities while steadily gathering listeners. Roadwork included supporting slots for other performers. One such evening brought him to the attention of Steve Blair, an agent with Warner Music Canada, who signed him to a deal that led directly to the recording of his debut album, The World Is Flat.
That record reached stores in May of 2000 and featured the original compositions “Bent,” “Lost Woman,” “No Small Task,” “Pleasures You Bring,” “Ghost on the Highway,” and “Frozen Night.”
