Jason Nesmith launched his career in entertainment through stage performances as an actor, guitarist, and singer/songwriter. By his late teens this son of ski-capped Monkee Michael Nesmith had already amassed credits in films, plays, and musicals. After studying at the prestigious Berklee School of Music he returned to Los Angeles and enlisted in the heavy metal band Kills for Thrills. That outfit issued an EP and a full-length on MCA Records in 1990 before the members parted ways. Nesmith started the Beauties in 1992 and delivered one album on Gasoline Alley, after which he dissolved the project and relocated to London the next year alongside longtime friend and fellow celebrity offspring Donovan Leitch. Together they assembled the glam rock band Nancy Boy, which generated three records and one Top Ten single in England and Australia from 1993 through 1998 before disbanding. Nesmith moved back to Los Angeles in 2000 and issued the solo EP Nomedia, followed the next year by the full-length Welcome to Pleasure Island on his own Nomedia label. In 2002 he signed a writer/producer agreement with Universal Music Publishing. While scoring television projects and performing with or producing various international acts, he completed a second album, Portrait, issued in 2006 on Fundamental Records. The same year he began assembling another set of songs.
