Known for his innovative approach to jazz trumpet, Jason Palmer leans into exploratory and intellectually stimulating post-bop styles. Hailing originally from High Point, North Carolina, he honed his skills through studies at Boston's New England Conservatory. During his time in the city, the musician became a fixture at the respected Wally's Cafe, beginning with guest appearances in jam sessions before becoming part of the venue's regular ensemble. Following his academic completion, Palmer has collaborated onstage with numerous established artists such as drummer Roy Haynes, saxophonists Benny Golson, Greg Osby, and Ravi Coltrane, as well as guitarist Kurt Rosenwinkel, among others. Recognition came in 2007 when Down Beat magazine included him in its list of the Top 25 Trumpeters of the Future. His first independent recording, Songbook, appeared via Ayva Music the subsequent year. Palmer claimed the top spot in the Carmine Caruso International Jazz Trumpet Solo Competition during 2009. Also in that year, he took a leading role as a jazz trumpeter in the indie musical movie Guy and Madeline on a Park Bench. SteepleChase Records put out his second album, Nothing to Hide, in 2010. The following year brought Here Today, which showcased contributions from saxophonist Mark Turner. By 2012, the artist issued his fourth full-length project, Take a Little Trip, which reinterpreted material originally performed by the iconic soul vocalist Minnie Riperton.
