Jasper van't Hof, the jazz pianist born June 30, 1947, in Enschede, Netherlands, entered a household steeped in music, his father a working trumpeter and his mother a classical vocalist, so that piano study commenced for the child at age five. By his school years he had resolved to make music his livelihood and began appearing in jazz ensembles there. At nineteen he performed at festivals with noted players Pierre Courbois and Toto Blanke; during that association with Blanke the pair established the group Association P.C. The 1970s saw him form Pork Pie, whose members included guitarist Philip Catherine, saxophonist Charlie Mariano, drummer Aldo Romano, and bassist J.F. Jennie Clarke. Further bands followed, among them Eyeball, which featured saxophonist Bob Malach, as well as Netherlands Quartet and Pili Pili. Solo releases over the ensuing decades have included Solo Piano, Face to Face, and Un Incontro Illusorio.
