Biography
Olly Bailey operates Jaws the Shark as his solo outlet from a London base. The project fuses '90s alt-rock, lo-fi textures, and punk energy, surfacing first in 2020 through the single “Mission Impossible.” Subsequent EPs and singles paved the way for his debut full-length, Wasteland, which arrived in 2024.
Bailey grew up in Devon with music already fixed as a professional goal. Early band activity gave way to behind-the-scenes work as a tour manager who built a steady career. COVID-19 halted that schedule, prompting his return from London to Devon for the duration of lockdowns. While there, he resumed songwriting and drew on the sounds of formative favorites such as Nirvana and the White Stripes. The self-released singles “Mission Impossible” and “Andy Gray” appeared in 2020; the following year he signed with Nice Swan, which issued two singles and the EP Another Day in Paradise. He then moved to SO Recordings and released the self-titled Jaws the Shark EP, highlighted by the Dinosaur Pile-Up collaboration “Destroy the World.” Live activity restarted with support dates for Deaf Havana that strengthened his profile. Further writing and recording produced the EP Cream in late 2023, while work on the debut album progressed. A short run of U.K. headline shows preceded the release of album tracks “California” and the Deaf Havana-assisted “Got It Made.” The George Perks-produced Wasteland emerged in mid-2024.
