Biography
Initially recognized for amassing millions of subscribers across multiple YouTube platforms, Jc Caylen turned heads in electronic music circles midway through the 2010s by curating selections of his preferred tracks into the well-received Neptones compilation series. Justin Caylen Castillo entered the world in Houston, Texas, during 1992, spent his formative years in San Antonio, and later adopted the legal name Justin Cloud Caylen. His inaugural channel launched online in September 2010; two years afterward he joined Ricky Dillon, Connor Franta, Kian Lawley, Sam Pottorff, and Trevor Moran to establish the collective Our2ndLife. Relocating to Los Angeles in 2013 did not prevent the group from shuttering its channel the following year. While Dillon launched a vocal career and Franta partnered with Andrew Graham and Jeremy Wineberg to create the Heard Well imprint, which issued well-received collections from Franta and Anthony “Lohanthony” Quintal, Caylen’s own project exceeded those efforts. Neptones, featuring downtempo, EDM, and electro-pop material from emerging acts including Jai Wolf and Illenium, ascended to the summit of Billboard’s Top Dance/Electronic Albums upon its November 2015 arrival. The 2016 sequel, Neptones, Ch. II, emphasized vocal-driven selections yet still registered strong chart performance.
