Biography
In 2005, after Out Hud disbanded, Molly Schnick—working as cellist and vocalist—turned to recording material that stood apart from the dance-punk approach of her earlier band. Across the subsequent three years she shaped a body of intimate, introspective pieces that were eventually gathered under the Jean on Jean moniker, resulting in her first album, issued by Kanine in autumn 2008 and bearing her own name. With help from ex-Supersystem member Rafael Cohen, the record fuses a lush “chamber pop on the cheap” texture and delicate folk leanings that match the season of its release. After the album appeared, Schnick formed a touring ensemble that brought together Cohen, Olivia Mori, and Eric Emm.
