Biography
Jeff Bird, a multi-instrumentalist blending folk and jazz elements, gained recognition primarily through his extended partnership with the Cowboy Junkies, though he also received significant praise for his independent recordings. Originating from Ontario in Canada, Bird helped establish the folk ensemble Tamarack in the latter part of the 1970s. Having admired his contributions for years, the Cowboy Junkies reached out to him in 1988, inviting participation on their landmark album The Trinity Sessions where he provided harmonica and mandolin. Beyond those efforts, his presence graced numerous later releases by the group, while additional projects involved artists such as Jane Siberry, Loreena McKennitt, and John Prine. His initial solo release arrived in 1995 under his own name, with the follow-up Everything Is Coming Plain and Clear to My Understanding appearing two years later. The year 2002 saw Bird unite with Jaro Czerwinec and Witold Grabowiecki to produce the live instrumental work Deep Breathing.
