The partnership of Jeff Johnson, a Christian vocalist, synthesizer player, and composer, with flutist Brian Dunning from the Celtic-New Age group Nightnoise has yielded some of the most instrumentally exquisite and lyrically resonant music of recent years. Although both musicians maintain active solo careers and participate in other ensembles, their joint efforts stand as the most rewarding of their endeavors. Billboard reviewed the 1997 duo release Music Of Celtic Legends -- The Bard And The Warrior, which merged science fantasy vision with Celtic mythology, and asserted, "while the sub-genre based on fantasy themes continues to grow, no one does it better than this duo." Heartbeat Magazine characterized the three-album series Songs From Albion, created as the soundtrack for Stephen Lawhead's Song Of Albion Trilogy, as "broad, poignant Celtic balladry, ancient rhythmic soundscape, electric settings with rock dynamism and soothing New Age expansiveness." The series appeared as separate albums in 1992, 1993, and 1994. Tracks from Johnson and Dunning's joint projects also surfaced on Johnson's solo recordings The Tale Of Three Trees in 1990, Great Romantics in 1991, Psalmus in 1996, and Prayers Of St. Brendan -- The Journey Home in 1998.
