Jennifer O'Connor

Jennifer O'Connor, a singer and songwriter, entered the world in a modest Connecticut community. Her family relocated to Florida shortly before she entered high school. Music had long captivated her, yet songwriting only began in 1996 once she completed her studies at an Atlanta college and became part of the band Violet there. Three years after that, she headed to New York City to launch a solo path, layering her fatigued voice over a blend of introspective folk-pop and indie rock compositions. The 2002 release of her debut album, which carried her own name, drew positive likenings to the output of Liz Phair and Mazzy Star. In 2005, the Red Panda imprint from New York put out The Color and the Light. Following her signing with Matador Records, she delivered Over the Mountain, Across the Valley and Back to the Stars during 2006. She remained on that roster for Here with Me in 2008, an album tracked over twelve days with contributions from musicians associated with the Hold Steady and Ben Folds Five.
