Biography
Originating from Saint Louis, Missouri, where he was born in 1970 to musician parents, Jeremy Davenport developed into a New Orleans-based trumpeter and vocalist whose style aligns with the approaches of Louis Armstrong, Bunny Berigan, and Chet Baker. A scholarship brought him to the Manhattan School of Music, and during those studies he worked with trumpeter Wynton Marsalis. He subsequently transferred to the University of New Orleans, which opened the door to a spot in the trumpet section of pianist/vocalist Harry Connick, Jr.'s big band in the early 1990s. Connick's example encouraged Davenport to place greater weight on singing, leading to the two solo studio albums he issued on Telarc, Jeremy Davenport and Maybe in a Dream. Regular performances at the Ritz-Carlton hotel in New Orleans have continued since the 1990s. A quartet set recorded live for National Public Radio's Jazzset appeared as Live at the Bistro on AAM Recordings in 2005. In 2008 he joined the roster of the New Orleans-based Basin Street Records, and the next year he released We'll Dance 'Til Dawn, which featured a duet with trumpeter/singer Kermit Ruffins.
