Born in England, the vocalist first earned recognition among British heavy metal enthusiasts through his role in the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal act Tygers Of Pan Tang. His time as the group’s frontman concluded in 1981. A short-lived spell with Lionheart followed, yet it amounted to just a single appearance. A lengthy musical hiatus ensued until he issued his first solo record, Third Step, in 1983. The album attempted to fuse pop and straight-ahead hard rock but met with little success, prompting critics to note that additional players were required to fully realize his material.

In 1986 he launched Tyger Tyger alongside an ex-Tygers Of Pan Tang colleague, seeking to revive the earlier band’s achievements. Scant activity surfaced afterward until 1999, when he rejoined Tygers Of Pan Tang co-founder Robb Weir for a live performance at the Wacken Festival.
