Biography
Jimmy Deuchar ranked among Britain's stronger bebop trumpeters and performed at London's Club Eleven during his Royal Air Force service before joining the Johnny Dankworth Seven in 1950. Subsequent engagements took him alongside Geraldo, Oscar Rabin, and Ronnie Scott's sextet during its 1951 residency in Paris. Early-'50s recording dates paired him with Jack Parnell and Scott, after which he undertook periods and tours with Tony Crombie, Lionel Hampton, and Scott. In the late '50s Deuchar relocated to Germany, remaining with Kurt Edelhagen's band from 1957 through 1959. He rejoined Scott's ensemble for roughly two years, then worked in Tubby Hayes' quartet, The Clarke-Boland Big Band, and Edelhagen's group once more. Throughout the '60s and '70s his primary activity shifted to arranging, though he did issue one leader album in 1979.
