Biography
New York singer/songwriter Jo Davidson projects a soulful presence in her solo work, driven by a lifelong commitment to composition. Having taken up piano at age four, she started crafting original material at eleven while immersed in classical studies during her Ohio childhood. Already attuned to her artistic and personal direction, she actively expanded her musical involvement and earned recognition through wins in the Billboard Nation Song Contest and John Lennon Songwriting Contest. Seeking broader opportunities beyond the Midwest to pursue singing full-time, Davidson relocated to Los Angeles in the early '90s. Industry obstacles prompted her to launch her own publishing company and imprint, Fragile Tough Girl Records, thereby managing her path independently. By decade's end, online song postings proved pivotal in building visibility. In 1997 she joined Susanna Hoffs as keyboard player and backup vocalist on tour, which preceded a 2000 agreement with Edel America Records. She prepared her debut album Kiss Me There for wider release through remastering, delivering the intimate and exposed collection she had envisioned. The track "Mental Pollution" appeared in the NBC film Friends to the End, with Shannen Doherty performing it, while "Ghost Town" landed on the soundtrack for Melanie Griffith's Forever Lulu. Kiss Me There reached stores in spring 2001.
