Joanna Wallfisch entered the world in London, England, as a jazz vocalist and multi-instrumentalist whose voice is fragile yet never frail; she is the offspring of classical cellist Raphael Wallfisch and violinist Elizabeth Wallfisch. Recorded at Douglas Street Studios in Brooklyn, New York during 2011, her first solo effort—the delicate Wild Swan—came out in early 2012. Completing a Masters in Jazz Performance at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London that same year, she then moved to New York City. She joined Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra for a 2013 U.S. tour as a member of the Chorale le Chateau, followed in 2014 by appearances on the film soundtracks All the Beautiful Things and Desert Dancer. Issued in 2015, her second album The Origin of Adjustable Things, which featured pianist Dan Tepfer, contained eight original compositions alongside four covers, among them a hushed interpretation of Radiohead's "Creep," Tim Buckley's "Song to a Siren," and the Academy Award-nominated Tiomkin-Washington song "Wild Is the Wind."
