Biography
While enrolled at the Madrid Conservatory, Valverde claimed first prizes in flute during 1867 and in composition during 1870. Seeking a faculty post at the same institution, he prepared a manual on the flute that surveyed its history alongside technical exercises, yet the appointment never materialized even though the manual later entered general use. His output exceeded two hundred instrumental compositions together with several theatrical scores. For more than twenty years he held posts as a theater conductor. Although many of his pieces arose from joint projects, he also produced independent works that included "Salon Enslava," La baraja francesa," and "La sangre moza."
