Biography
Established in 1988 amid the alpine terrain of Wisenberg—a mountain region located in the municipality of Wolfenschiessen within Switzerland’s Nidwalden canton—the 19-member volksmusik ensemble Jodlerklub Wiesenberg spent its early decades earning notice almost exclusively through stage appearances. More than ten years passed before the group issued its debut album, Meys Edelweyss, in 2000. Recognition on a national scale arrived in 2007 with the follow-up Mey Freyd, which ascended to the Top Five of the Swiss albums chart. Its strong performance stemmed chiefly from a widely embraced cover of “Ewigi Liäbi,” the song first popularized as a 2006 Top Ten single by Swiss rock band Mash. Remaining on the chart for roughly twelve months, Mey Freyd also brought Jodlerklub Wiesenberg the 2007 Prix Walo in the Schlager/Volksmusik category.
