Listen on Coda
Born circa 1954 in Shelbourne, Ontario, Canada, Firth discovered music early and began performing on guitar at twelve. Over the following years he added banjo and piano to his abilities while developing skill as an arranger and composer. Although he maintained his professional base in Ontario, Firth traveled across Canada through the 1970s, 1980s, and into later decades with his Promised Land band, appearing at events such as the Ponoka Stampede and the Calgary Stampede. He also performed in the United States, where audiences in West Virginia responded especially well. Several musicians passed through Firth’s lineup, among them Kevin Ansell on guitar, Dave Halpern on drums, Dan Knight handling guitar and vocals, and Jason McCoy on guitar and vocals; most of these players had previously belonged to Mr Reality. His sets regularly featured the numbers “Big Brother,” “Four In The Morning,” “I’m Just Me,” “Another Night Of Love,” “She’s All I Got,” and “I Never Had The One I Wanted.” One notable recording came in 1984 when he joined Paul Weber on the Dave Kirby composition “Run For Your Life Love Affair.”
