Joe Gumin and His Orchestra

Genre: Jazz
Origin: U.S.A
Listen on Coda
In the 1920s and 1930s Milwaukee drummer Joe Gumin, born Gumina, fronted a territory band whose engagements centered on Wisconsin and Illinois. The group cut a small number of sides, apparently for Columbia, that resurfaced for listeners seven decades afterward. Its buoyant reading of “I’ll Think of You” illustrates the band’s capacity to swing, while “Just a Gigolo” renders the “sweet” style with equal conviction. A version of “Jingle Bells” was also committed to disc.
